I have been teaching Latin to students of all ages, from young children to advanced graduate students, since the early 1990s. I taught at the University of Colorado for several years, and then concentrated for some years on private students, both homeschoolers and students who took Latin in addition to a regular school curriculum, as well as adult students who chose to study Latin for fun. I have taught private students individually and in groups, in their homes, in mine, in bookstores and coffee houses and libraries and parks. I have helped graduate students read Caesar, Cicero, Horace, Livy, Virgil, Catullus, Tacitus, St Augustine, and others, reading poetry or prose, any style, from any era. I recently taught Latin in the Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, CO. There I taught Level 1 through Level 4, from complete beginner through to the International Baccalaureate exam. I derive great joy from both reading and teaching Latin. I try to convey not only an understanding of the language but also an enthusiasm for it, and an interest in the rich study of ancient history. Students quickly perceive that I know and love my subject, and that I want to get it across to them, and that I believe they can get it. Those are my core, bedrock beliefs: This is a GREAT subject. I’ll show it to you. You have the ability to learn it. Students often hear me say, “You are gonna love this,” or “You won’t believe this part!” or “How cool is THAT?”
